What Does the Future Hold? Cattle Breeding Techniques was written by Carl Dahlen, NDSU Extension Beef Cattle Specialist. It is one long with no parts. This journal was written to tell people about the ever-growing progress of the latest breeding techniques. In this journal, I found how exciting breeding technologies, new and old, are being improved and implemented to breed animals better. For example, Dahlen explains how researchers have asses a procedure called male germ cell transplantation, “The concept of their work is that transferring cells (specifically spermatogonial stem cells) from the testis of a donor male into the testis of a recipient male could result in the recipient producing the donor male’s sperm.” (Dahlen, para.3). When discussing animal breeding, we usually discuss inserting an embryo or sperm into a female. Still, the fact that we have expanded our knowledge and come up with a way to put a donor sperm into another male is fascinating. This journal is educational to someone interested in developing new ways to advance animal breeding. This is an exceptional journal to read through and learn new breeding techniques.
